The speaking part of the IELTS test may make or break your score. Practicing and mastering it is important and even before that knowing the components and tricks of the test may be helpful. To hit a band score of 8 you must use your two minutes of speaking and fill it in with interesting details, impressive vocabulary, and impeccable sentencing, not only will the examiner get an idea of your skill but will also know about your speaking capabilities and use of language in an elaborate way.

Once the examiner is giving you information and instructions regarding the test you must listen clearly and carefully. Following that you will be given time to articulate your thoughts and make notes regarding your answer, you must get to it as soon as possible and at the same time ensure that whatever comes to your mind you pen it down on the paper in English and not your own native language, otherwise while speaking you will have to take pauses to translate and articulate your answer such that it is formed and worded correctly, this entire process may be time-consuming and will not help you in scoring well.

Introduce your answer very well and use different and unique approaches, something out of the ordinary. If you are asked about a person, you may find it appropriate to describe the person’s physical appearance and personality while expanding on how one occasion, they did something interesting and so on. Engaging with the examiner and keeping the examiner’s attention is key to scoring well. If you are asked about a place, describe the physical aspects, the weather, and give descriptions about the colors and overall atmosphere, the interest may be built by various techniques.

The strategy overall is to listen to the instructions carefully, make notes in English while making your answer very interesting, make the correct choice of words and speak with confidence and pronounce the words correctly. Do not choose words you are not confident using in daily life and have the doubt that you may end up pronouncing them wrongly. Just like any other skill, speaking is also a skill and is perfected with time. Practice diligently and get yourself used to talk about such topics confidently while knowing what details are important. Mapping out the details of your answer is the most important key to answering confidently and rightly.
